Pastor’s Welcome

Welcome to Blessed Junipero Serra Parish, A Catholic Faith Community, located in Quartz Hill (Lancaster), California! Our parish was founded on August 15, 1987 and has grown significantly in these 23 years. Please feel welcome to join us for Mass, especially on the Lord’s Day. Our liturgies are supported by a full spectrum of ministries. We really take seriously the Catholic Church’s insistence that “participation of the faithful is the goal to be considered before all others.”

Father Serra Parish is staffed by the Congregation of St. Joseph, founded in 1873 in Turin, Italy by St. Leonard Murialdo. As a CSJ parish, “every youngster should find a family” here. Mission Bell Preschool is one of the ministries of our parish. We strive to provide an overtly Catholic experience of early childhood education to our three and four year-olds. As our children move on to Kindergarten, their parents report a high degree of reading readiness and a smooth transition into “big school.” Our Religious Education program serves children in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Second graders are prepared for the sacrament of penance; third graders are prepared for their First Holy Communion. Children’s Liturgy of the Word has become very popular for our 4, 5 and 6 year-old children at the 9:30 Sunday Mass. We hope to begin this ministry at the noon Mass soon. Our parish is partnered with St. Mary Catholic Elementary School in Palmdale—our families are welcomed to SMS as equals to the members of St. Mary Parish. Paraclete High School, an Archdiocesan owned and operated Catholic school, is located within our parish boundaries. Confirmation is a two-year process normally done in high school. Youth ministry was re-launched in March 2010. Young folks are welcome to join the various ministries alongside their parents and grandparents.

Cada domingo a las dos de la tarde hay una santa Misa en español. Cada dos meses hay una clase de preparación por el bautismo en español para papás y padrinos. Cada lunes el grupo “Jesus, Fuente de Misericordia” tiene un encuentro de oración a las 7:00 de noche.

The Community of Blessed Junipero Serra Parish is an extended family which recognizes a lifelong commitment to understand and live the word of God. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves, through prayer and interaction, to develop a caring and loving community enriched by just and compassionate service to others with a pledge to heal, reconcile and welcome all people into our community. The realization of our mission will be achieved through the shared efforts and expertise of clergy and laity.
