Pastor’s Welcome

In the midst of the summer heat, a couple of lines from the Pentecost Sequence describing the Holy Spirit come to mind:  Dulce refrigerium—Sweetness of cool refreshment; In aestu temperies—Relief in heat.  This same Holy Spirit is operative among us as we listen to Scripture, recall God’s marvelous work in Christ, and celebrate the Lord’s Supper at Mass.   Please feel welcome to join our Catholic Faith Community in worship, especially on Sundays.   We celebrate Eucharist Saturday at 5PM and Sunday at 7:30, 9:30 and 12:00 in English.  At 2:00 Sunday afternoon we celebrate in Spanish.  In Lake Hughes, Mass is celebrated at St. Elizabeth Mission, Johnson Road across from Lake Elizabeth Road, at 10:00 every Sunday.  Other prayer and sacrament schedules are to be found in the bulletin, which is posted on this web site.

Except for the week of Vacation Bible School, July 12-16, 3:30 to 6:30 PM, the summer is a time for welcoming new parishioners, registering for Religious Education and Confirmation, and for people interested in learning about the Catholic faith to talk to us about the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults process.  (By the way, registration forms for VBS are available here online.)  Of course, there are also building maintenance and improvement projects to be done while our Mission Bell Preschool is off for summer vacation.  We’ve extended our office hours for your convenience.  I will be in town until the Oberammergau trip August 18-30, which still has some available seats to sell.

Yours in Christ,
Fr. Leo Dechant, CSJ
Pastor
